The annual flagship State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SoFI) published by FAO alongside IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO, provides key data on the global progress towards ending hunger and malnutrition. 

This year, SoFI will focus on the financial flows for food security and nutrition. Moreover, it will address the complexities in defining financing for food security and nutrition as well as the importance of identifying and measuring public and private financing towards SDG 2.  

Drawing upon our expertise in finance and development, the Shamba Centre for Food & Climate is honoured to be supporting the FAO in the research and writing of SoFI 2024.  We are writing a background paper exploring the discrepancies in current financing estimates for food security and nutrition. In addition, we are facilitating and moderating the SoFI 2024 Financial Technical Advisory Committee which is advising the SoFi 2024 team on innovative public and private financing for food security and nutrition.  The Advisory Committee comprises of financing experts working in private and public funds, insurance, agriculture, small holder financing, academia and thinktanks, sovereign wealth funds and more.
